True Meaning of Life

Roderick Nash, the author of "Wilderness and the American Mind", describes a person who is a romantic that is "bored or disgusted with man and his works". I think he means that our current materialistic world is filled with things that become so ordinary and redundant that we do not know what natural beauty is anymore. While Nash analyzes the reason why people leave a civilized society, Estwick Evans does so by actually going to the western wilds. He wants to attain natural, unadulterated feelings of self. Evans separates himself from "factitious habits, prejudices and imperfections of civilization". These obstacles have in a way blocked his real feelings. His main objective was to find "more correct views of human nature and of the true interests of man". So he went there not just because he was confused or puzzled, he had a mission in mind, to understand what we are doing here on earth.
