Returning to the Wild

Through the ages, civilization has gone through changes, which have brought about differences in the way people conduct their lives. This is how Estwick Evans felt about modern society. He felt as though society had become somewhat corrupted during its development. To him society represents something, which has in a way become lost and needs to find its way back to where it originally came from. That is where nature comes into play. Nature is seen by Estwick and Nash, who believed nature, was for those who gave up on civilization, as a pure world. Nature isn’t even seen to be a part of the same world as civilization because they are so different. It is though nature represents the way of the past. Nature is the pure world untouched or corrupted by man or time. Those wishing to seek refuge in this uncorrupted place are looking for something human beings have lost over time. They’re looking for human ideals, which have been lost on the journey of human development. Returning to nature is like returning to the past ways, which people have given up for more modern conveniences.
